"Shave and a Haircut" has gotten alot of media/user attention. It's very easy
to show off what it can do from a few jpegs or an MPEG because before it came out
there simply was no way to do decent hair. Unfortunately, before LipService was
released there already were a couple packages out there that could do OK facial
animation and it's real power has been a really tough sell.
If you ask me personally, which package is cooler, I would tell you hands down LipService.
You really have to use it (correctly) to appreciate it.
I can tell you about non-linear morphs, I can tell you about real-time performance, I
can tell you about multi-layered animation. But frankly you're just not going to believe me
until you actually learn/use it and see how easy it is to create really *good* animation with this
tool.
LipService doesn't have a flashy looking interface, it doesn't have alot
of things windows users expect, and it does many things very differently than the programs you're
used to. But I'm going to ask you to overlook that stuff and really try it out. It's well worth
the effort. The underlying concepts are fairly revolutionary, and well thought out.
I'd strongly recommend starting with the demo objects, and following the docs to the letter - especially
learning the hotkeys (LipService is fairly useless without them).
Go ahead and read through these pages, but I just have to say trust me and see a project through to
the end, because it's the final results that you will achieve that are going to shock you.
regards,
joe
